Children Chiropractic Care

Children Chiropractic Care El Dorado Hills

Chiropractic care for children is becoming more common and can start as early as birth. Many parents will have their infants checked due to significant trauma that can occur during the birthing process. During the first year of life, there are many milestones including sitting up, crawling, and walking that can be affected by joint dysfunction or misalignment within the spine. As a child continues to grow and takes part in regular activities, trauma and injury can be common cause for a parent to seek chiropractic care. These misalignments may or may not result in immediate pain or symptoms. Regular chiropractic checkups can identify potential spinal injury from everyday activities and help avoid health complaints seen later in adults. Proper spinal hygiene is an important key to better overall health.

A common topic for pediatric care is that chiropractic can help with different conditions such as ear infections, asthma, allergies, and colic. It is important to understand that a Doctor of Chiropractic does not treat conditions or diseases. Chiropractic care helps eliminate joint dysfunction and misalignment within the spine which helps the nervous system function properly. The spine is the primary protector of the spinal cord and is also the pathway for the nerves. The function of the nervous system is highly developed and therefore influences all other systems in the body that can play a significant role in health and disease. With the help of chiropractic care, spinal dysfunction and misalignment can be eliminated improving the overall function of the nervous system.

Last, our goal is to keep kids happy, healthy and moving.  A couple ideas that will help with every child include:

  • Lead by example
    • Common sense and science suggest that as parents, we exert a tremendous amount of influence on our children. Get off the couch and show your kids the value of an active life filled with physical activity
  • Unplug for a while
    • One of the worst effects of technology from a health perspective is that people tend to end up sitting rather than moving. Hours on end of TV, video games, and even phone and computer activities like instant messaging and chat rooms leave very little time for exercise. While there is no easy solution, establishing a daily time limit on these activities is a great start
  • Find the time
    • When we’re young, we spend hours in the yard or on school grounds playing our favorite games; then we slowly get more and more responsibilities and somehow, time just begins to disappear. It happens quickly, right around the time daily homework comes along. What can you do about it? It’s the same advice, whether young or old: find the time. Pencil physical activities into your Childs daily schedule and don’t let “life” erase it.
  • Make it fun
    • It’s a truism whether you’re an adult or a child: you are more likely to stick with something if you enjoy doing it. Too often, exercise becomes more of a chore than pleasing activity, and this often begins at an early age, basically as soon as children get involved in the rigors of organized sports. Sure, it’s never all fun and games, but it shouldn’t be a dreaded activity, not if you do it right. Be creative and teach children that being active is fun at any age.
