ANKLE & FOOT PAIN

Anatomy & Physiology:

The ankle and foot comprise a complex structure of 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. These structures work together to provide support, balance, and mobility. The plantar fascia, Achilles tendon, and subtalar joints are critical in weight-bearing and propulsion during movement.

Common Conditions & Injuries: Common Diagnoses:

• Plantar fasciitis

• Achilles tendinitis

• Ankle sprains or instability

Common Causes of Injury :

• Rolling or twisting the ankle on uneven ground

• Wearing unsupportive footwear for long periods

• Repetitive impact from running or jumping on hard surfaces

• Sudden movements or awkward landings (e.g., tripping, jumping, missing a step)

• Overuse from repetitive motions (like typing, walking on uneven surfaces, or lifting heavy objects)

• Poor posture or form during exercise, work, or daily activities

• Accidents or collisions (such as car accidents, sports tackles, or falls)
