KNEE PAIN

Anatomy & Physiology:

The knee is a hinge-type synovial joint formed by the articulation of the femur, tibia, and patella. It contains two menisci that act as shock absorbers, and four major ligaments (ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL) that provide stability. The surrounding muscles, including the quadriceps and hamstrings, contribute to joint movement and alignment. The patellofemoral joint and iliotibial band also play key roles in knee mechanics.

Common Conditions & Injuries: Common Diagnoses:

• Osteoarthritis

• Tendinitis or tendinosis

• Ligament sprains or muscle strains

Common Causes of Injury :

• Sudden movements or awkward landings (e.g., tripping, jumping, missing a step)

• Overuse from repetitive motions (like typing, walking on uneven surfaces, or lifting heavy objects)

• Poor posture or form during exercise, work, or daily activities

• Accidents or collisions (such as car accidents, sports tackles, or falls)
